"On bad teams, nobody leads. On average teams, the coaches' lead. On elite teams, the players' lead." - PJ Fleck
I love learning about leadership and teamwork and constantly do research so I can try to build and sustain a connected team that feels like a family. With that said, I don't strive to be better than other coaches...I just strive to be the best I can be and bring out the best in my team (and in return, they bring out the best in me).
One thing I have learned from all of my research is that player-led teams experience more success than coach-led teams. In order for that to happen, the coach needs to praise, support, and empower the few leaders on the team who have a team-first mentality and are 100% bought into the team culture. Those players use their actions and words to lead themselves and others and are the glue that keeps the team connected.
Thank you for reading and please feel free to reach out if I can help in anyway!
