“If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together”. African Proverb
I recently watched the movie “RISE” on Disney+ and it was incredible! It was so good that I watched it twice. I have recommended this movie to a lot of people and wanted to share it with you as well!
Spoiler Alert: I have shared my thoughts below about the movie. Watch it first and then read my post if you haven’t watched it yet :)
My favorite takeaways:
Family First! “When one person in the family scores, the whole family scores”. This family sacrificed so much for each other and the gratitude they have for those actions is genuinely acknowledged and appreciated.
The power of the huddle! Huddling up was present throughout this movie! Circled up, arms around each other, supporting one another and communicating a message with words or just an excited embrace.
Live in the moment! The father buys Giannis and Thanasis a new pair of basketball sneakers. It is pouring rain outside and with out hesitation they say thank you, put them on, and start to play! No time like the present…right?
No excuses! 1. The boys first opportunity to play organized basketball was at a club that was not close to their home. They used public transportation to get there despite the lengthy commute. 2. During games, Giannis and Thanasis couldn’t play at the same time because they shared ONE pair of shoes. 3. Giannis was preparing for the NBA draft and slept in the basketball gym on a mattress so he could spending more time training opposed to commuting back and forth. Find a way....not an excuse!
Loyalty is everything! Giannis only had one agent that was initially interested in representing him. In a sports society where it has become the norm to leave your current situation and join another team, he and his family decided to stay committed to him. It all worked out in the end and he made it to the NBA and brought his family with him!
After you watch RISE, what are your main takeaways? Please share with me :)
Thank you for reading and please feel free to reach out if I can help in anyway!
